UEA Internship Programme Conditions

By submitting this form you are agreeing to the following conditions of the UEA Internship Programme:

  • Pay the intern at least the National Living Wage (£12.21 per hour from 1st April 2025).
  • Ensure that the intern is covered by appropriate insurance (including Employers’ Liability and Public Liability Insurance) as required by UK Law.
  • Ensure that you comply with all current UK Employment, Equal Opportunities and Health & Safety Legislation.
  • Host the intern on business premises if possible, though they can work remotely. They cannot work from an office in your home, unless this is a fully separate building.
  • Where an intern is working remotely, they must be working from a location within the United Kingdom.
  • Ensure you are in regular contact with the intern throughout the internship to supervise their work progress and professional growth.
  • Provide the Internship Team with a minimum of 10-15 working days’ notice upon appointing an intern so that right to work checks can be completed and an internship agreement drawn up.
  • Immediately inform the Internship Team of any proposed changes to the internship agreement. One extension or amendment is permitted to the internship agreement, but 10 working days’ notice must be given to facilitate the change.

Using Information

As part of the requirements of the UEA Internship Programme, we collect applications on behalf of your organisation in order to fill your open vacancy. Applicants will submit their application to us before being sent to you electronically for recruitment purposes. Application information may include up-to-date contact details, education records, employment history and other personal details. In applying to a role through the UEA Internship Programme applicants have given their consent that this application will be shared with the organisation hosting the internship and are made aware of their rights.

Keeping Information

You are required to keep application information only until your open vacancy is filled. When that recruitment period is over, please securely delete applications if they have been stored on a computer or safely destroy the data if it has been printed and stored offline.

Sharing information

Application information must not be transferred outside the European Economic Area. Access should be limited to staff whose roles require it for the purpose of recruitment.

SME Subsidies

UEA can offer subsidies to SMEs to help with the cost of employing a UEA student or graduate intern through the UEA Internship Programme. Subsidies are available to SMEs for UEA Employed internships for 50% off the cost of the internship up to a maximum of £2,000. Please complete our internship subsidy expression of interest form if you would like to apply for a subsidy to employ an intern to support your project.

Internship hosts can apply for up to a maximum of £2,000 internship subsidies in total per financial year (August - July). Internships must start by 31st July 2026 to be eligible. Please note that subsidy funding is limited and subject to availability, and therefore cannot be guaranteed.
